As a courtroom expert, perhaps oddly, I enjoy murder mysteries and courtroom thrillers. However, I am very critical of many I read. "Weighing the Truth" is fascinating especially about court procedures, and I must admit that I learned much reading this book. I think I must have gotten a bit jaded in recent years, because Ms. Mason's book was something I read and literally could not put down even with many things to do. I finished the book in two days, although perhaps I should have taken a week to enjoy the subtlety of the dialogue and clues. I am not sure whether to consider this suspenseful book as a mystery or courtroom thriller. The character development is right-on with the real lives of courtroom personnel, not always in a flattering way. I recommend the book to adults with interest in vagaries of justice and where things are going.Tags : Weighing the Truth: A Novel - Kindle edition by Christine Z Mason. Weighing the Truth A Novel edition by Christine Z Mason Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Deeply-realized characters highlight this legal suspense novel. Natalya Drummond faces daunting challenges in the workplace while mothering a young child and seeking to heal from the recent loss of her husband. In so doing, one of her "tasks" is to successfully negotiate her relationships with the various men in her life. Whether fellow attorneys, a death row client, an assailant or a deceased spouse, she must come to terms with what men truly represent to her. Through profoundly human struggles, her story is both psychologically and emotionally satisfying. This novel will grab your attention from the outset and hold it throughout Natalya's courageous transformation.
Weighing The Truth, by Christine Z. Mason, is an exciting, fast-moving novel that had me in suspense from the very first page. Her characters are so well developed that they could be my own friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. Mason introduces the main character, Natalya Drummond, as a young, optimistic, and idealistic attorney who chose a career as a defense attorney because she strongly believes in the principles of due process, the right to a competent attorney, and the presumption of innocence. As the novel progresses, however, events begin to whittle away at her idealism. Weighing The Truth is not only an intriguing legal who-done-it; it is an examination of psychological conflict between idealism and reality.
Engaging and suspenseful. Weighing the Truth is a realistic and insightful (and sometimes sexy) look into both the criminal legal system and the challenges faced by professional women, but you might not even notice that because you'll be holding on tight as it ramps up near the end.
I agree with many reviewers that this book kept my interest and I didn't want to put it down. I love interesting fiction that also teaches me something. This one shows the real workings of the legal system for the worst crimes. There is a thriller main plot combined with a young professional woman's growth through facing a particularly challenging time in her life.
I love the complex main character in this story and the inside look at the world of legal appeals. The only complaint I have is that this book cost me some sleep, both because I couldn't put it down and because I kept thinking about it after. Well done.
Intriguing story and characters kept me involved in reading to a point that I didn't want to put it down. I felt like I really knew the characters after reading just a couple of chapters. The story took several twists and turns that I didn't expect but it stayed feasible . Great book!
A compelling legal tale that starts at San Quentin but winds up deep inside the reader’s heart with the ultimate universal truth life never goes according to plan. While Mason's knowledge of the legal system shines through the page, it is her depiction of a woman caught amidst life's tragedies and triumphs that lingers in this reader's memory.
