Stranded on Portsmouth Island, William Hill struggled to survive even as The Fever raced across the world leaving a scattered wasteland of the dead and dying in its wake. The news brought stories of storms and riots, of people starving while the government promised food.
Two weeks before, life had made sense. The outlook hadn’t been bright, but he understood it. Faced with dwindling supplies and a disease so virulent some wondered if humanity might be facing its own extinction, William figured he had enough to worry about.
Then he found the message, scrawled in blood and written personally for him. The chilling words left him wondering whether or not he’d live long to see the next sunrise.
Not even a fool could mistake the intent, not when the evil knew his name and watched from shadows.

The Island Part 4 Fallen Earth eBook Michael Stark
Part 4, for me, is far and away the best of all five parts of this book. Stark pulls out all the stops: the descriptions are gruesome, danger comes from unexpected places, and the suspense is palpable. The humanness of the main character, William Hill, made me love Part 4 also. Hill is likable but also makes dumb decisions. When writing William Hill, Stark walks that fine line where Hill isn't the infallible apocalypse hero, but also manages to not make it look like he's trying really really hard to not make Hill come off as "that guy".*Review re-posted from goodreads.com

The Island Part 4 Fallen Earth eBook Michael Stark Reviews
Let me start off by saying that I am going to read the next book in the series. I just don't like filler books. My definition of a filler book is one that doesn't really answer anything just moves you along in the story just far enough to get you to want to read the next book. This book seemed to drag on at times causing me to just skip a paragraph or two just to move things along.
Ending was a bit confusing and left you hanging.......not in a to be continued way either.....it just kinda stops like the author was sick of writing. The sequel was supposed to be out in 2013 as well and his web site indicated it was off to the publishers this past Dec 2014. Still no sequel. I don't plan on reading it after all the excitement and then huge let down at the close of this book.
I read it. I did not like it. The story was all over the place with every genre covered, and the person that it centered on was just your average superman, wise man, super mechanic, etcetera, etcetra. It was what the author said in the beginning an ongoing story tailored for people of many ages but told at one age level at a time.
Wow, what a story. Mr. Stark knows how to write a book. Each part bring more information. Again, what are these things? The characters are coming to life and I am excited to start book 5. If you want to read a page Turner, look no further. What does Daniel know? Now at the tail end Jackie starts coughing is it the fever, if so, how did she get it? Gotta read part 5 to find out. William has to survive as he is our hero and Elsie and Daniel are protected by him. Can't wait, gotta go read....
Michael Stark's series "the Island" draws you in from the very beginning and you do not want to stop reading. His "Hero" William Hill is very believable and you can see that he is very much a man of courage and honor. With an "Angel" and "Ark Angel" in their possesion, is helpful... however, when William goes to check on the other camps and is attacked by the demons, his will to live and keen senses are what save him. I found the charactor William Hill very believable and very enduring. You care what happens to him, Elsie and the others that are straned on the outer banks of north carolina.
The series is best read in order as the suspense builds with each book. I say read "the Island - part 4 (fallen earth"), but to truly enjoy it as the author has intended ... read it in order with the others of the series.
Love , Love , Love this series. I have done some research but cannot find out what happened to the next books. If anyone can figure it out please let me know. There are a lot of people who want to get them.
This series is fast paced with very different characters who try to survive disaster and supernatural threats. There are still mysteries to be solved. We need more.
I was unable to put the first books of the series down.
I got The Island - Part 1 as a freebie a while back. When I finally read it, I could not put it down. I ended up reading the whole series up to date in 3 days. I enjoyed the characters, the scenery (I am from that part of NC but moved to Australia 10 years ago, so it was a trip down memory lane sometimes -anyways), the plot just kept twisting and turning in all directions and coming at me from every which way. Sometimes I saw it coming, other times I didn't see it till it smacked me in the face. I really liked this story from beginning to end, and I am looking forward to reading the next story involving these characters. This book doesn't disappoint, it's out there, but really it's a piece of fiction, if you are looking for 'realistic' story, this probably isn't for you, but if you want a good edge of the seat read, definitely give this series a go!
