I expected great things from this author. I read her blog often and I know how intelligent she is, but this truly astounded me. I don't think I was prepared for how well this book flowed from her pen, nor how easy it was to lose yourself in it.

I love the way the chapters in this novel are arranged. You get the opportunity to learn about the characters individually and build a relationship with them before moving on to the main portion of the story. I enjoyed the gentle introduction to the characters and appreciated that Sarah Cradit did not do a huge information dump right at the beginning of the novel. Instead, the book progresses naturally and allows you to explore the characters, the setting and come to know the plot without feeling rushed or overburdened.

Sarah Cradit's writing is tight and masterful. There were no points during the journey through reading this novel where I thought anything could have been removed or expanded upon. Her keen sense of how to pace a book and her ability to use just the right language to express the desires, fears and hopes of her characters is flawless.

This story will make you fall in love, shock you, keep you in suspense and make you stay up all night (warning) just so you can find out what happens next.

If you have ever read a book that you never want to stop reading, or if you have ever thought about a novel long hours after finishing it, then you know how I feel about The Storm and the Darkness. This is a beautifully crafted book and I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

I prefer my books to complete a story- it's my preference and bias. Although the book does not explain a lot of background, it does have a good story with interesting possibilities for future novels. I am looking forward to following the story line to see where this all goes. This prequel leaves some holes , and while I like a book to be self contained, it does have some closure to the immediate story line. Anasophia, Nicholas, oz, Finn-they are all connected in what will be clear someway down the road. This is not as well written as I believe the author can do, but trust that the next book will tighten up the writing experience.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review. I admit that I have struggled on how to write a review on this book and how many stars I should give it for the last few days. The book itself it well written and edited. The story is told from several POVs which at times I struggled with the jumping back and forth between characters. I felt like from the beginning the suspense on what was actually happening and the behind the scenes was really good. Yet, I just couldn't connect with some of the characters because they were so strange. I just couldn't come to terms with some of the things that Ana did throughout the story. For me, most of the characters were too damaged and I couldn't understand why they did what they did, a lot of it coming completely out of left field for me. I think if a person likes the paranormal or gothic genres, you will love this book. I don't really like either genre so it was an unfortunate choice of book for me to read.
This book was amazing! It got better and better and better as you went along. You start out alone on an island, contemplating how to change and suddenly you find yourself eyeing a handsome young man returning on his boat from fishing. You remind yourself that you are not going to do that anymore. The island caretaker “rescues” you from the winter rain and takes you into a lighthouse. He’s been kind to you, watching out for you as he did with your house for years. As he begins to tell the stories of the people buried outside of the lighthouse, for me it struck me funny and I wondered if he had something to do with their death.
Nothing like a huge snow storm to close off the island and you realize that you need to go next door through 2 feet of snow, it can’t end good going over the rocks on the shore to get there.
At this point I have been trying to but together the mystery that is forming. From this point on, I was on the edge of my seat holding my breath. I’m glued to my kindle, not wanting to put it down for anything, I had to see what happens. Suspense at its highest, loaded with surprises and the outcome is no where, where you thought it would be. This very exciting book will leave you craving more and shaking your head at the outcome. Amazing!
